Is a question many of us can’t answer… truthfully. We have many items that represent different iterations of our lives that no longer fit who we are today. The challenge is deciding what to keep, re-purpose or give away. Here are a few suggestions that might inspire fresh approaches to downsizing your closet:
- If you have to ask, “Do I look fat in this?” It may be time to let it go. Keep pieces that immediately make you feel happy, comfortable and confident when it’s on your body. When in doubt, throw it out!
- Is it beyond repair? I have kept shirts, jeans, dresses that were falling a part because I loved them so much. It’s hard to say goodbye to clothing that just gets us. However, if it’s beyond repair, consider re-purposing it into a quilt, a pillowcase or bookmark. Those are just a few suggestions to get your wheels turning to creatively find ways in putting beloved clothing to good use other than your body.
- Does it still give you joy? Clothes can reminders of past experiences making it hard to let them go. If re-purposing the item isn’t feasible, perhaps donating it will help ease the pain of letting it go.
The suggestions above won’t solve all of your clothing problems but it’s a start to getting you free from the you of yesterday so you can embrace the you of right now!
